So it looks like the SONOFF guys have just released a light switch that does not need a neutral and is also wifi controllable etc.

I am not recommending it in any way just letting you know it is available for anyone that may be interested in it.

Details here Model number is: SONOFF T4EU1C WiFi smart single wall switch

They’re are others out there that can work without a neutral at the switch

Challenge still the same need deeper back box as this is still 35mm deep and then you need space for wires

Plus their ‘anti flicker’ device is probably a resister which needs to be wired in somewhere in line. The sort used by others is considerable in size so can be challenging.

Finally they don’t mention a minimum watt requirement which again is interesting because if the wattage is high enough on the load the ‘anti flicker’ device may not be required the switch will be able to power share enough to power and negate the need for it

No expert in their device by the way and not saying it’s good/bad just highlighting some things which are the same for every manufacturer is it all comes down to physics at the end of the day

I'm about to upgrade my LightwaveRF Gen1 installation to Gen 2.  Neither need neutral, but Gen 2 supports it.

From what I have read on these forums and elsewhere, the only thing I can recommend to do with SONOFF is to avoid it!

How have you found the Gen1 lightwave stuff? Thinking of fitting LW in our new house. Shout me if you're selling the Gen1 bits.

Yeah, good stuff.  To get the best out of it, you've got to select the right dimmable products and it takes a bit of tuning.  Philips Master works really well.  For the most part it's been reliable.  I've had to replace a couple of double sockets but they were under warranty, and have been fine ever since.

I will be selling my Gen 1 kit at some stage.  I'm still undecided whether to jump in or swap-out bit by bit.

As with all these products, it still needs a circuit for the electrickery to flow. They work by dimming the lamps, so they are off to the human eye, but still on. So lamp compatibility is a must. Check the manufacturer web site for suitable lamps.
