Swann CCTV hard drive problem

I have a Swann DVR1500-4 home CCTV system that kept pausing on playback. Now lately it takes dozens of attempts to get it to start playback. I think the hard drive is failing. My question is can I just replace the hard drive or does it have to be reconfigured to the system. I'm capable of replacing the hard drive and access the config section of the system but that's my limit.
