As per the subject really, where do you go for pre-owned/pre-loved/2nd hand hi-fi?

eBay it is.

Biggest choice by far, and plenty of hifi shops sell their used stuff there, usually with warranties.

For more expensive, esoteric stuff there are still a few specialist shops that sell online.

I use eBay sold items and hifi shark sold items to gauge price.

Usual caveats apply, if you can audition, if you can pick it up and check working, cash on collection, don’t use PayPal family and friends, if using paypal remember you have no insurance if it is not delivered.

Some great bargains out there but be patient and wait for what you want at the price you want to pay, don’t get suckered into a bidding war. Personally on eBay I agree a price with myself and then bid that as a max bid with 3 seconds to go, if I miss out I wait for the next one.

Yes, I find some items on eBay go for more than they’re worth because people get involved in a bidding war just because they want to “win”. Can work in your favour if you’re selling...
Provenance is key. Don’t be afraid to ask questions. Genuine sellers will respond properly.

Cash converters.. obviously very much hit and miss, but the hits can be good, ..and very low cost. 20% of initial list price would be high end. The added bonus is that you can see the stuff visually , and there is a guarantee of typically 3 to 6 months
