I'm not sure the cod games would be the best for a beginner, they are quite fast paced and often relied on infinitive re-spawns of enemy troops that you have to wade through to get to a point were they stop unlike traditional FPS games were you clear the area and proceed.
Maybe start with the Killzone and Crysis series which are lot more slow paced and traditional. Wolfenstein: The New Order is another good one that came out at the very end of the PS3 life cycle. Play them on easiest difficulty level, it's better to start out at that and beat the game to learn the ropes.
Deux Ex Human Revolution also another slow paced FPS style game but is multi-role it is also an RPG can be played in multiple ways from stealth, hacking, pacifist to all out guns blazing. The Fallout series is similar but even more RPG heavy and slower paced than that, there is Fallout 3 and Fallout New Vegas, both are huge time sinks (New Vegas is better).
Aside from FPS games Sony's Uncharted series are definitely worth playing it's an outright clone of Indiana Jones but set in modern era. The Last of Us is by the same guys but virus/zombie style setting.
There's tons of other stuff but hard to say if that are your thing, like a of of fighting games from God of War to Batman Arkham rely heavily on combo pressed of buttons, some people pick that up real quick and others never get it (like me). |
