Hi all,
I hope this is the right place to post this. I have been looking at these "Smart LED Bulbs" which you can control from your smartphone. But most of these bulbs need a hub to control them. I want a light bulb I can turn on with my smartphone. But I dont want to spend $100 on a hub just to make the $25 light bulb work.

Is there a cheaper way of doing this out there?.

The goal is to either be able to turn on the light bulb in my room where I sleep, with my smart phone, and even have a timer turn the light on at a certain time, which I read these new smart bulbs can do.

Thanks in advance for any suggestions.

I use Lifx. I have 3 of them, they connect straight to your WiFi and don't require a hub that broadcasts some proprietary protocol.

The app works great and they can also integrate to Amazon's echo.

The mihome stuff is good. Yes you need a cheap hub but after that things get cheaper. Unless you need individual bulbs to control in a single circuit replace the switch. I have me kitchen light set on motion or I can use Alexa or my phone.
