Just bought a Boss BR800 Digital Recorder....

....to play with and was hoping to find some online chat, but there's not much around.  It's quite old technology - came out in 2010 - but I'm not sure that it's been superceded by anything better (other than actual computer/laptop stuff)  Anyone out there using one of these?  I've dabbled with a couple of songs starting to learn my way around, inputting from my Taylor GS Mini - which sounds terrific with a Rock effect guitar!  Also synth keys input from Garage Band on my iPad, and vocals of course.
Would like to establish contact with anyone else with similar set-up.

You could try here as some of the guys have recorders, not necessarily BR800 though.

I’ve got a BR80, it’s pretty much the same thing in compact form without all the sliders and input. Great little unit I use it more as a practice tool and the odd bit of recording. Mics are actually pretty good.

I’d guess there isn’t the market for the all in one units as there was, everyone seems to use Daws (pro tools, audigy, reaper etc). If you want physical  sliders/inputs you can get interfaces with usb support for sliders and inputs but laying one track at a time is often easiest for home from my limited experience.

A few of the guys on the forum linked bought the zoom R8/16 which are similar and they like it. It’s nice having everything in one unit but the modelling is 10 years old in these devices and not on par with GarageBand, IRs and plug ins. Most of the features are far in advance on a daw like drums etc as plug ins are so abundant now.

The problems with these units is the interfaces tend to be clunky and you have compromises fitting everything in one box. Once you use GarageBand it’s just so easy and quick, on the pro tools you have all sorts of fancy features. So a cheap used MacBook and interface will likely do the job better

Used prices for these units are pretty good so you can always buy one try it if it works keep it if not flip it.
