Red City

Can anyone give me any feedback on Boston USA? I'm looking at going next September. Places to stay, see transport and so on. Thanks

Probably my favourite US city. Stayed at Jurys then again at The Four Seasons. Both great places to stay but not cheap due to their location. Lots to see in the city, particularly about US independence. There's a red line to follow that meanders through the city passing important places from that period. Finishes at the Bunker Hill monument. We went to Concord, Harvard and Salem by train which was easy. Boat trips, shopping, restaurants, bars, parks, concerts, it's got it all. There will be something online that can explain far better than me, but you will not be disappointed.

My daughter spent 4 months studying in the USA and absolutely loved her visit to Boston. Like @hyperfish it is probably her favourite US city.

Great city - small enough that it's easy to walk round.  Can get very hot and humid in the summer.

Stay at The Bostonian.  Right opposite Faneuil Hall and located on the Freedom Trail (the red line mentioned above, a line of red paving stones that takes you to all sites of importance).  Don't bother eating there, great street food in Quincy Market just over the road.  Try and stay central if you can then most of the sights are walkable although taxis are cheap.  There is a subway system but it's geared towards commuters rather than tourists in where it goes.  To be honest you can walk to most places pretty easily and safely.

Do -
The North End - Paul Revere's House, Cop's Hill Burial Ground, Old North Church.  This is also the Italian Quarter, do eat here and you're spoilt for choice.Bunker Hill, Charlestown Shipyard and USS Constitution.Quincy Market, Faneuil Hall, Holocaust Memorial are all within a few yards of each other.The Old State House, Old South Meeting House, Granary Burial Ground, Mass State House, Grand Lodge of Massachusetts, Boston Common, Boston Public Garden and the Swan Boats are all close to each other and walkable.Trinity Church, Boston Public Library, the Skywalk Observatory (great views on a clear day) at the Prudential are close to each other.Science museum and aquarium on a rainy day.River Cruise on the Charles - very pleasant way to while away a couple of hours if you get the late afternoon/evening cruise, bar onboard too.Ferry to Provincetown on the Cape is a good day out as is the ferry to Salem.Harvard - but it's a bit meh.Hop-on/Hop-off bus tour is a good way to get your bearings.See a Red Sox Game at Fenway Park (if the season is on).Museum of Fine Art and Isabella Stuart Gardner Museum if art is your thing.Beacon Hill and Louisburg Square to see how the posh Brahmins live.Eat/drink -
Clam chowder - Boston is famous for it.2 breweries in Boston - Sam Adams and Harpoon.Dunkin Donuts was also founded in Boston and you're never more than 100yds from one (or that's what it feels like!).North End for Italian.Quincy Market for global street food.
Shopping -
Newbury StreetPrudential Centre which is linked to Copley Place.Downtown Crossing.Cambridgeside Galleria ( if you must).It's a fabulous city, very European in feel and the birthplace of the revolution so lots of history (for the US).

We stayed at the Lenox and the Taj though it was several years ago.  
The Taj was a total waste of money but the Lenox was nice and the staff were super helpful.
As above The Freedom Trail is really good.
We took the Duck Tour which I heartily recommend.  We went mid summer and only just managed to book tickets for two days after we arrived so if you think you might enjoy it it would be worth looking/booking in advance.
We took the train or metro to Harvard which was nice to wander around and there were some nice places to eat and drink.
We were recommended the Legal Seafood chain but the food we had was really unmemorable so I would swerve that if I went again.  Definitely try chowder somewhere though!
It's a fun city and we had a great time wandering the Freedom Trail.
