Is it A good idea? Am I going to get bent over when it comes to taxing it?
Going to be probably 4-5,years old. Definitely not the latest Euro 6 standard. Ones I have looked at claim tax @£20-30 per year. I understand that is changing this year?

New tax rules only affect cars registered new from 1st April. Used cars registered before this date are not affected.

Check the emissions of the actual car you are buying carefully

Is it? The DVLA site states the first year is based on CO2 emissions - same for all cars. After a year the extra is added for the 40K for five years on top of the rate for the type of fuel (that rate is also the same for all cars). So a 67 plate would still be the same as a 17 plate if the same engine/fuel type for 1 year? The 67 can’t be a year old yet?

New vehicle tax rates from 1 April 2017

If I read that right the mate should be looking for a refund? The 17 plate will have just changed to the fuel type rate from CO2 so would be cheaper now?

Any car over 40k will pay the first year rate as normal then the Co2 rate plus £310 extra for the next 5 years, after that the rate will drop to normal again.

Confusing.

That’s how I read it. So the 17 and the 67 plate paid the same at first registration based on CO2. Then the second owner of the 17 paid the reduced rate for the second year based on fuel type. Later this year the 67 owner will ph the reduced rate for fuel type plus the £310 for the £40K thing. That will take it back to about the same as year 1. Owner of 17 plate is going to save over the 6 years but at the moment it isn’t the £40K.

I think
