But doesn't handle as nicely and just feels duller to drive.
Save your money, wait for the new G21 and see what you think of those.
I was lent a 330i G20 and was really, really impressed with it. It was back to being a proper fun BMW, and didn't feel like many turbo petrols can, it was very linear.
I think diesel and all that torque is making cars boring. Great for the honeymoon period and then when the novelty wears off of the on/off throttle and having grunt at any rev range sinks I just start looking on autotrader again.
I took an E92 320i (N43 184hp) as a part ex on my car the other month, and have to say that was a real eye opener. It really didn't feel slow in the slightest, but you had to work it a bit, keep the revs between 3000-7000rpm and it gave you a sense of reward. That was the first time in years I jumped off the sofa at 10pm and went for a 2 hour drive for the sake of it.
That is missing from so many of todays cars, that is what a BMW should be like, it reminded me of my old E30 325i manual, and so did the 330i G20.
Adding more weight, taking away the wonderful RWD and trying to compensate with yet more power just doesn't work for me.
Mate of mine swapped his F31 320i for the 335d, the 320i was his first BMW, and he liked it so much he got carried away and swapped for the 335d. He said it was a silly move and admitted he preferred his 2013 320i Touring.
Just make sure you have one on a proper demo, that is all I am saying. You might just save yourself a few quid. |
