So the missus needs a new vehicle, previously had a Citroen Berlingo van.... so anything will be a bit of a jump.

Little bit of background we used to live 1.5 miles from work, so didn't need anything too reliable/economical etc.  She now has a new job with a 60 mile round trip commute so needs something a little more economical/reliable/comfortable.  Someone drove into her and wrote the Van off last week, so this has forced this issue a little too.

She was all set on an SUV style vehicle, but after driving the courtesy car could probably be swayed more to a smaller more economical car (courtesy car is getting 45mpg)

She likes the look of the Merc A180, but what other vehicles in a similar vain should she be looking at?  Budget is £10-12k probably want's 30k miles or less 3 years old or less.

She works for the NHS (not sure if there are many PCP options)

If she's looking at the Merc, think about a Golf, BMW or Focus. The new Focus Active is excellent, feeling very solid and with a good range of driving aids etc.

Go for a diesel at those sorts of mileages. You will get more like 55 - 60MPG and you won't have the issues around DPF regens etc.

PCP would be possible at those sorts of miles and you could easily get a good deal with £5K down.

Look for an ex motability car, most are low mileage and with full service history, generally main agent serviced. Used to be replaced at 3 years but with the change from DLA to PIP, people are loosing their cars so some fairly newish ones around.
