It's an amazingly beautiful and immersive movie when it comes to scenery and atmosphere, but the script is horrible and so are the message and characters. It was really about two men (an angry abusive father and an as angry, but possibly less abusive, son who felt really sorry for themselves. It started off really well, seeing that the film really was evolving into something morally acceptable, but ended off giving the narrative to the two angry and sad men who hurt people and expect then expect love and gratitude back. It would be fine if the narrative was constructed that way that it was criticizing the behaviour, but it faded into the background if that were the intention. Not only that, where did they find female actors to play those awfully written roles? It's sad to see in 2018 that a movie without meaningful female roles, their only function was to enhance the emotion of the head male character and give them something to protect (and scream at occassionally).
Good attempt, but guns, car crashes, military, scary disease and angry dudes doesn't make a good movie.
Which message or moral did the script writer and the director wish to convey with this movie? Because I sure as hell do not know.
