One of my favorite genre ever, taken of Homer's Iliad and odyssey from ancient Hellenic epic poems about the Trojan's war and the King Ulysses (Kirk Douglas) who has been punished for disregards the God Neptune, then the wrath of the God pursued him for many years along his long journey to back to Ithaca, his wife the Queen Penelope (Sivana Mangano) was surround by dozen applicants, however according the Greek's law if a King disappears for a certain years his wife must choose a new husband from aristocracy, swiftly, meanwhile Ulysses and his Boat's crew soldiers are wandering for unknown seas, at shore on battle with a giant Cyclops at cave, passing through by sea's siren song and has been bewitched by the enchanting Circe (Silvana Mangano on double role) he stays there for six months or so, his soldiers after countless pleas left him behind, they were engulfed by a stormy sea, the next stop Ulysses wrecks his raft at seashore at foreign land, Ulysses fault into oblivion there, he got be a welcome guest, including gaining the Princess Nausicaa's affection (Rossana Podestà, but thru many flashbacks Ulysses recovers his memories going back to Ithaca as an old beggar in attempt to get the real Penelope's feelings after his long absence years, there he'll faces their worst enemies at your own squandered home, an overproduction made by a joint-venture from several powerful studios, Ponti-de Laurentiis, Lux, Zenith and Paramount Pictures as well, a lavish and expensive endeavor on Italian land, having the leading edge Kirk Douglas as flagship, criminally underrated!!
