Apart from a couple of nods, this is, 'Venus in Furs' in name only.

Apparently potential US distributors wanted the title and a fur for the poster and Franco obliged even if he had based the movie around Chet Baker and an imaginary love.

Mesmerising, haunting, sexy, colourful and with a magnificent score. The performances are fine and the director seems to have a most confident control and this must rank as one of his most assured pieces of work.

Little narrative structure to get in the way of this free flowing exercise in romantic decadence and more than a little psychedelic influence.
