Otherwise known as Last Cannibal World and Ultimo Mondo Cannibale I have the British pre cert Derann VHS, which is cut despite the Trivia section saying that it wasn't. Unlike pretty much all of the other Italian cannibal movies this one was never prosecuted in the UK as a Video Nasty, though it could still be seized by the police.It has since been given an BBFC 18 certificate, with cuts.
Set in an Asian jungle four occupants of a small aeroplane find themselves in danger, not just from the array of deadly animals but also from cannibals. Two are killed early on and a third presumed dead. Most of the film focuses on the surviving member, Robert Harper (played by Massimo Foschi), he is captured by the unfriendly locals and held captive in their cave, these scenes are quite impressive, He is bound, stripped then hoisted high up in an attempt to make him fly, this was really well filmed.The cannibals kids get their kicks by pelting him with rocks and urinating on him, no wonder he's desperate to escape. Which he does, taking the lovely looking Me Me Lai with him, raping her along the way, which made me wonder if he is any better than the vicious tribe people? This movie features a great deal of violence, real animal cruelty and a lot of full frontal nudity, even with cuts it is still very strong. One of the most disturbing scenes has a woman give birth to a baby then throw it to some crocodiles in the river. As Italian cannibal movies go this is a pretty solid effort though director Ruggero Deodato was to follow it up with Cannibal Holocaust (1980), one of the most controversial movies of all time and considered by many as the original found footage movie.
If you like gory cannibal exploitation movies then this one is well worth seeing, if you don't then avoid as it's rather nasty.
