It's not a 'samurai movie' in the traditional Hollywood sense.
It's like MMA. You know they're not -really- trying to kill each other, but it's pretty damn realistic - no over the top choreography, no flying, no magic. Just good old fashioned slaughter.
And no, no decapitations. Conserving energy and fighting back in quick, precise, effective moves.
The one thing that does bother me is, they could have used 'blood' bags instead of the CG stuff. It's weird seeing blood fly out of someone and vanish into thin air.
