It's not too often now that a great Western comes around, and even a rarer occurence in the theater, so now we look to the TV cable channels for them. This is the case for HBO's The Jack Bull. Headlined by John Cusack and written by his father, the movie centers on a man's quest to have the man he left in charge of two fine horses to restore them to health after he neglects them badly. His quest leads him to chase the man across Montana and leads him into conflict with not only the man he is chasing and his hired hands but the entire governmental organization of Montana, as they prepare for statehood. A fine turn by Cusack and a storyline that doesn't condescend to the viewer make The Jack Bull a great example of the modern Western.
