There were just 9 of us in the theatre as the curtains drew back and I was wondering what the other 231 absent patrons knew that we didn't. I soon found out. This is one of the worst films I have ever endured, a cliché-ridden carrier bag of hoary old tropes mingled with the very worst - and embarrassing - depictions of camp gays. Add in the rape of a drugged male passenger by a female (did NO-ONE think this was objectionable? Try turning it round the other way and see what outcry there would have been) and you have a sad mish-mash of the very worst Carry On series from the 70's tinged with "edgy" sex (yawn). Some have argued that this is the director's political take on the state of the Spanish economy, well if it was it quickly slipped down the greasy bum crack of Joycean obscurity that failed to illuminate the childish shenanigans of the flight crew. SPOILER ALERT At the end the plane crash lands at the airport. I was hoping that the whole lot had immolated in some glorious gotterdamerung but no, here they all come, safe and sound, tripping over the foam flecked tarmac like so many mincing Charles Hawtrys.
The 9 of us left the theatre at the end avoiding each other eyes knowing we had wasted 90 minutes of our lives and watched something seriously grubby. Like punters exiting a Soho porn theatre we raised our lapels and hid our faces to avoid being recognised as dirty old men by passers-by. Ugh! I need another shower.
