What the hell was that ending?

After 8 episodes, good twists and turns and some decent acting across 4 different languages, which is extremely impressive. The makers of this show decided to ruin the entire thing by writing that the father of Andrea (the police officer - Rolf) doesn't seem to give a care that his daughter was kidnapped by some polish woman and that his ex wife MIGHT BE INTERESTED IN HAVING HER DAUGHTER BACK! All because he doesn't want to take the daughter away from the kidnapper of a mother... not only this but the daughter would legally have to be returned anyway so why ruin it?...
It gets worse with Charlotte Rampling making some smug supposedly philosophical remark that 'he is his choices'... erm sorry what?!
Whoever wrote this ending deserves to be hit over the head the same amount of times Neel (the deputy police officer) was over the course of this TV show.
