I come from the generation that clamored for shows like this, and now, 40 years later, I can't reject it. It is funny, with that deadpan kind of humor Seinfeld has. Well maybe not but this show captured and immortalized something many of us still long for, an innocence, an idealized view of the world, just something simple and manageable and, yes, totally imaginary. I mean I could ramble on and wax half or a quarter eloquently about the Cleavers and their "Pleasantville" little town of Mayfield but really, all I want to say is that there is a warmth and a virtue in this show that appeals to me.
