The writers should grow up

Oftentimes I lose sight of the fact that actors are reciting lines and behaving in ways that are dictated by the writers and directors of a show. The writers and directors seem happy to cast their female protagonist as emotionally stunted and prone to crying and screaming. She gets attacked in every other episode and cries and screams and never even tries to defend herself. This show has been running for a very long time...more than enough time for here to at least learn a bit of self defense. She is simply presented as physically and emotionally weak. I don't like that.
