I want to revert to my youth where if it was cold I used to go to bed to listen to WS so it looks as though I will have to put a DAB on my birthday list but many thanks for your suggestions.

Bear in mind that it could bring you back to your original question of reception/signal strength. So I'd suggest that you make sure that whatever you get can take an external aerial.

This time I'm going to look for a specialist Radio shop if such things do exist and visit them.Something like "Richer Sounds.

Richer Sounds definitely but try John Lewis as well, especially a big branch if you are near one.

Get some data on your phone or tablet and a Bluetooth speaker. BBC streams WS live 24/7. And R4.

I finally bought a DAB radio and couldn't raise a signal from Steventon OX13 6AL but having read that signal availability changes at night I will try later.

Remembering my training as a signaller some 50 years ago the term, "Ionosphere" came to mind and how when one finds it impossible to make radio contact it improves that ability to make radio when darkness occurs.I had another go at finding a DAB station and was successful in catching the BBC World Service which was the primary point in buying a DAB.I'm obliged to say that I was impressed with the RGKA Portable DAB & FM Sports Radio but concerned with the ability of who ever is responsible for transmitting the DAB signal to do it 24-Seven.

A postcode search here indicates good reception so it may be the inability of the radio to receive rather than a failure of transmission.

Never heard of RGKA, can you link to what you bought?

I switched the radio on this morning and such are the vagaries of DAB Radio that the BBC World Service, BBC Radio 4, Local radio Oxford were there but Jazz radio and Classic radio were not. Perhaps it will sort itself out.I discovered that Aldi do special offers some time ago when I found a top of the range Gamin GPS.I found the radio I bought in the following URL is it called?

If it's this one then it looks like it only has a flimsy length of wire for an aerial, which is going to have limitations. No aerial socket either.
