When you say "my virgin media BB fails on me", can you elaborate further? The service from VM shouldn't regularly fail without reason, maybe get VM to repair your cable if its faulty? If they refuse to fix your issues then perhaps look at the possibility of getting a FTTC line (assuming its available where you are) instead? I would rather sacrifice some speed for stability...

it has phases ... sometimes it will be solid as a rock for months on end, then there will be phases of a couple of months where drops once or twice a week due to signal/noise issues. Its been that way for as long as I have had it, which must be 15yrs or so.

oh, and I do get FTTC in my area. I have been looking at Vodafone who claim to offer 65mbs for 28 quid a month...still pondering on it

Ok thanks, in that case I would seriously consider dumping VM cable in favour of FTTC. Potential speeds of 65 Mbps on FTTC are still very good and will easily let you do most things online.

thanks. Whatever I do, I want to have my own wifi router anyways, so modems can get changed and still keep my network intact, so be silly not to get one with 4g failover capability. Doing some research, ive also seen the
NETGEAR R7100LG
which has a sim slot and built in 4g modem...250 pounds. Cant really find any english reviews on this though. Anyone have knowledge of it?

The R7100LG gets good reviews on Amazon:

I have the R7000 Nighthawk without the 4G failover and it is a capable mid range router. Quite enough for what I do with it and not crazy money (IMO) for the next ones up.

Ive gone for the synology - its my Birthday today, so happy never going without internet again birthday to me.
Plumped for synology because read a few reviews with same ISP, modem and mobile providers and they had no problems, also if I ever did use up that 20 gig on my 4g sim, i can use my phone which has another 30 gig tether
