Pioneer Car Stereo wire adaptor connector
Hi,I removed my old Alpine car stereo.
I am trying to connect my Pioneer DEH-X3800UI into my VW Golf March 2002 model.
The wire connector in the Golf has is a small rectangle block. This won't fit into the back of the Pioneer stereo.
The wire adaptor which came with the Pioneer car stereo the end with the small rectangle connector fits into the back of the car stereo. The other end has 2 big black rectangle blocks.I think the black rectangle block is known as the ISO
These won't fit into the wire connector in the Golf. These are too big.
Do I need some sort of wire adaptor so it can fit into the Golf car wire connector?
Which type do I need please?
With the old Alpine car stereo the wire connector from the car fitted just fine into the car stereo.
It seems the Pioneer car stereo is a different connector, the car.Aren't these supposed to be standard?
Thanks, Riaz The small connector in the stereo isn't standard. Some models don't even have a connector but the cables are captive on a big bunch.
The 2 large connector blocks are indeed the ISO connectors and they are a standard thing on aftermarket stereos.
What age Golf is it and is the Alpine aftermarket or the original stereo?
You may find the plug from the Alpine does lead to an ISO connector if you gently pull the cables out further, depending on the cars age there would ha e been an even larger VW specific connector which in turn connects to an adapter loom with ISO sockets on the end The Golf is March 2002.The previous Alpine stereo model number is CDE-9828RB
I had bought the Alpine one many years ago As far as I can tell a Golf of that age should actually have ISO connectors already.
I suspect you'll either find them by tracing the wires from the Alpine further back
Or
The original wiring has been hack around to fit the alpine so you may need to get busy with a soldering iron and a set of ISO sockets. Ah I understand now, yes I may need to pull the wires out further.I didn't pull the wires out too much as I was worried I may unplug, pull something out too far.I will check tomorrow.Thanks. I traced the wires further back and there is sellotape around the wires. The original wiring has been a hack around to fit the Alpine. The wire adaptor which has come with the Pioneer should I cut off the ISO socket and solder these wires to the wires in the car, match up the colours? The colours may or may not be exactly the same but yes that would work
Personally I'd be restoring an ISO connector rather than hacking the new stereos wiring. You can buy generic ISO connectors easily, for example

A different option, which I don't if it's a possibility for you, would be to upgrade to a different Alpine stereo instead of the Pioneer. A different Alpine is almost certainly going to have the same connector on the stereo end.
