Marantz Receiver

I have a Marantz receiver with a question. When I set the surround mode to Auto and have an incoming source sending Dolby Digital,I see that when I press info it says that 'Signal: Dolby Digital' 'Sound: Dolby Digital   Dolby Surround'.Does this mean it's playing Dolby Digital and Dolby surround together?

Also when I select Direct mode will it just play Dolby Digital if that's what is from the source?

Thanks, Newbie here be gentle

Dolbysurround is an up mixer and will only come into effect if you have height/upfireing/ceiling speakers.

Direct mode will disable all processing and auddessy settings, alot of people use this mode when listen to music as it's more natural sounding

So since I don't have anything but 5.1 with no height speakers it will play only dolby digital then.

Since I only have 5.1 Does Dolby True HD still come through and just mixes the additional speakers into my 5.1 but is still losless?

Yes that is correct, you only get Dolby true hd and Dts HD marster audio from blu rays/uhd blu ray

I guess I'm still having some trouble understanding this so let me ask another way.

I have a 5.1 system with no ceiling speakers. When I am playing a Blu Ray with Dolby True HD as the sound track coming in over HDMI I can manually select the Sound Mode Movie button.

1) Out of the many selections 2 of them are:

A: 'Dolby True HD'
B: 'Dolby True HD   Dolby Surround'

Why would I select the B over A?How can 2 surround modes run at the same time?

2) I tried selecting Auto in with the pure button but it will automatically select the B mode.

3) If I were to select direct with the pure button would it play the A mode only?

Thanks so much for your help.
