Buying a NAS for my network

Hello forum, I usually only lurk and read as I am not knowledgeable enough to contribute useful information. I am or think I am ready to purchase a NAS for my network. I have been reading a lot and I just want confirmation that I am purchasing the right unit for my want.I just want to put movies of all types(4k, 1080) photos and music on it. I have a shield box. My only question is, will this unit be suffice or is it overkill, DiskStation DS918-plus .

Welcome, and please don’t feel that you can’t contribute because you most certainly can.

That unit will be more than enough. I presume that you have gone through all of the pain ripping all of your movies? I like may here have probably been down that route, many of us have fallen by the wayside as it is a pain to keep up ripping them (and streaming movie sources are cheap and convenient).

That said I still rip all of my CDs, mainly due to having 4 different setups that i use to listen on and it is convenient (although I just signed up to Amazon Music HD, 90 day trial, which to date has been insanely good).

I like having my own library, just for a hobby. Streaming movies I have not enjoyed the experience, I don't get any quality to choose from and when I try to watch its constantly buffering

I liked having my own library too, I get it. But my time is too valuable these days to spend it ripping movies, I am happy to spend those extra few seconds putting a 4k into my player, for the films that i wish to own.
