Hiring a Motorhome

Thinking about doing something completely different and hiring a motorhome summer 2018 and driving to a few campsites in France.

Has anyone done this recently, and tips or recommendations, especially firms to hire from and campsites to visit?

It would be for 2 adults and 2 kids (both girls, they'll be 9 and 6 by then). I've been looking at 6 berth motorhomes, or luxurious 4 berths, just so we have a bit of space. I'd like to not be converting lounge areas into beds every night, so I'm looking for as close to fix bedding for all 4 of us as possible, and a decent size usable bathroom.

First google search is looking like around £2000 for 2 weeks. I have no idea if that's expensive for something like this.

No experience but I am also toying with the motor home idea. 2018 around a few of the US national parks but I'd like to do a mini tour of UK parks first to see if I actually like a snail holiday

That's exactly what I told my wife last night. Let's get one for a long weekend first & see how much it stinks by Monday

I like the idea of it. But as someone who went on caravan holidays as a kid, I think the routine of emptying waste, hooking up to electricity, packing everything away for transport etc might get tedious. Definitely will be doing mini break first

Emptying waste, oh god

The hidden joys of a mobile home! I am surprised campsites don't offer a vip service. I would gladly pay someone £20 to do all that, something that is probably no more than 10 mins work to a trained hand

We have a m/h and wildcamp regularly throughout the year all over Scotland. Every three or four days we go onto a campsite to empty the grey waste ( drive over grate and open tap ) and black waste ( remove toilet cassette and empty at disposal point)and refill the fresh water tank. As for packing everything away all we need to pack away is the kettle and we are ready to move.

Picture is a wildcamp overnight spot on the Ardnamurchan peninsula last year.

How nice is that!

Pulled the trigger.

Booked a motor home from Just Go for 16 nights this summer.

Now to plan the route for our inaugural trip. Will likely do a clockwise tour starting near the Depot at Milton Keynes, West to Brecon beacons, up to lake district with a few city/ tops on the way there and back.

Just take it easy and enjoy. We have just returned from a 700 mile trip over six days around Scotland.
