I use Hotels.com I stick my dates in and see what comes up, then check the locations out on Google maps. This year we stayed at the Q & A on Pine St, we got a great price and it was within walking distance of most of the attractions in south Manhattan. We also needed our own kitchen as the previous 8 days was a roadtrip and we were sick of fast food!
A lot of people go for Midtown, but I think anywhere is okay as long as it isn't too far from the subway data:image/gif;base64,R0lGODlhAQABAIAAAAAAAP///yH5BAEAAAAALAAAAAABAAEAAAIBRAA7
All done and booked aside from itinerary gaps.
We are staying 3 nights at The Beekman, 2 in a park view suite in The Park Lane hotel and then final one at The Michelangelo near Times Square district.

Missus still thinks I have booked Easyjet to Barcelona. Hehe.
