Brilliant city!

Kadewe is worth a look for shopping. The UBahn is fantastic, easy to get around on and value for money. Imbiss restaurants are great value for money. Visiting Berlin without trying a Currywurst is against the law. data:image/gif;base64,R0lGODlhAQABAIAAAAAAAP///yH5BAEAAAAALAAAAAABAAEAAAIBRAA7

I’ve been 4 times and always stayed in the Hotel Angleterre. A nice, reasonably priced hotel just down the road from Checkpoint Charlie. There’s a UBahn stop just outside as well.

Berlin is great, can't wait to go back. We stayed near Alexanderplatz in the meininger sadly with kids that time so no bars but when we go back without we shall try them. It looked a great city for going out, not a huge shopping fan but some serious malls with slides from top floor to bottom and alexanderplatz had some serious shopping.

Everything is very inexpensive for a European city,1 for curry wurst also Burgermeister and back factory (greggs but good) the DDR museum is worth an hour or so. Beer is super cheap and Berlin has a street drinking culture which in the UK would be chavs drinking buckfast fighting but in Nerlin it all seems pretty civil - Oh the Donner kebab was invented in Berlin by Turkish immigrants and they are much better than over here.

Berlin has loads of bars and restaurants. We've been several times before and after the wall came down and loved it very time. It became a bit commercialised after the wall went but it's still a great place. The beer and food is largely excellent.

We stayed here:
Hotel in Berlin-Mitte near the main train station – Steigenberger Hotel Am Kanzleramt bookings

Great location and swanky hotel.

Does it have to be Berlin? Munich is also an excellent place to visit. Like Berlin it has many excellent bars and restaurants. If it's the bars and restaurants you're mainly interested in then Dusseldorf is another very good option.

Indeed the history is fascinating. There's a museum where Checkpoint Charlie used to be which is well worth a visit. We went into East Berlin through there when the wall was still up. The East Germans were doing some repair work on it. For every workman there was an armed guard to discourage the workers from doing a runner into West Berlin.

Hilton looks a good location. You’re not far from the Currywurst museum data:image/gif;base64,R0lGODlhAQABAIAAAAAAAP///yH5BAEAAAAALAAAAAABAAEAAAIBRAA7.

I went to Berlin because of the WW2 history. There’s, obviously, plenty of museums and memorials to visit in and around the city. Some busy, some not so.
