The thought of being beaten in the medal count by NZ makes them feel even more infuriated

Well the Aussies ran outa gas at the end but damn, for like 80% of the game they were very clearly the better team.

I lived in Oz for a year and the thing I found about the Aussies is that they go on about the Brits being bad losers all the time. What they dont realise is that they are great at "dishing it out" when they are winning but can't take it when they are losing. Most Brits I knew used to take the stick in a good natured way but as soon as the tables were turned the Aussies got really shirty
There is definitely a big chip on the shoulder re the Brits, which is probably understandable given their history

Totally agree. I am finding this quite amusing now. Not Australia's relitively low gold count, but how they are reacting. If you read thier press, every article and its comments have a very bitter anti-GB tone and is spun in a way that makes it seem like we have cheated.
They seem to think they are our biggest rivals in everything. Maybe in the cricket, but in most things we tend to think about getting one over the French, Germans and maybe the USA sometimes. Don't flatter yourself Australia, and if your reading; Chris Hoy is not a Pom, as many seem to think data:image/gif;base64,R0lGODlhAQABAIAAAAAAAP///yH5BAEAAAAALAAAAAABAAEAAAIBRAA7

I must be missing something, but that alternative table still shows GB in 3rd, with AUS a few places bellow.
