Fair play to Taylor, that really was the performance of a true champion. He is still one hell of a player.MVG has nothing to worry about as he will be back and his time will certainly come.

Don't like the bloke, but you have to give him credit for performing so well in the final when it mattered.
MVG will be back and better off for this experience - financially and emotionally!!

And just as Bristow predicted before the match (7-4 Taylor)!

Nope I'm no fan of Taylor as a person either. He's been one hell of a player though and is still one of the very best.
MVG will indeed have taken a lot from that defeat and his last 12 months in general.I remember watching him a few years ago with his spiky hair (may have been in the youth world championships) and you could tell he was something special then.

Yeah and I was half tempted to have a cheeky bet on that as well.£80 back from your £10 bet.

I have to say, that was one of the very best darts matches I have seen and that was an astounding performance from Taylor. After watching both players previous matches I didn't honestly think he could do it. I thought it would be close due to Taylors very good averages along with his better doubles percentages but even so, the way Van Gewen was throwing, I thought that would be the difference as it's no good having a better checkout percentage if you don't get there first.
That's probably the best I've ever seen Taylor throw and his experience of playing world finals told in the end as he kept his cool and carried on slotting the 180's and checkouts.
If Van Gerwen manages to keep his focus on the darts through his twenties and not get sidetracked in the showbiz side, he will be almost unstoppable over the next decade or so.

Agreed, we've seen some great scorers recently (Anderson, Chisnall, Lewis, Wade, Barney and Taylor himself to name a few) but van Gerwen is just a different class again. When he hits his groove he just makes it look so easy and whilst he can get caught in the same mental traps as we all do when we can't hit that double, his combination finishes are amazing and are often too quick for he camera to keep up with!
I really felt that he could only beat himself yesterday and that's what he did.He was well in control until he lost composure a bit and that was all that Taylor needed to pounce. He still played well in the final part of the game but where as he was picking out the double nearly every time (with a 60%checkout percentage) he started to chase doubles around the board and you just can't do that with Taylor as he will take out the big finishes and punish you nearly every time.
Composure and consistency will come for MVG and he is already just about there. His composure in this tournament has been fantastic bar the odd moment and he's already won 1 title this year so he knows he can win big tv tournaments.Hoping to get to some premier league matches this year and can't wait to see MVG in action (who will definitely be in this year).

As an amateur thrower myself I can regularly hit the 20, 5 and 1 but being able to consistantly hit the trebles and the doubles is that little more difficult. What I like about van gerwens throwing action is if his first throw is accurate its deadly as his smooth action allows the other two to follow.
Like others I don't like Taylor myself its the arrogant nature I hate but with his slow throwing style his aim is brilliant and his averages are exceptional. And he got better with age!
