Triathlon Bike
Hi Guys,I have a lot of things on a list "To do's Before I'm 50". The clock is whizzing by and one of the things on the list is to do a Triathlon. I have a reasonable level of fitness and go to the gym, run and swim very regular.
One area I know very little about is cycling. So I want to buy a bike to train on and to use the same bike for a Triathlon.
I am 5'-8" so what type of bike should I be looking at, size etc and where should I be looking for it. (prefer to buy second hand)

DJ Small to medium frame. Check eBay for some bargains. I picked up a Boardman Race for £310, medium frame (I'm 5' 10"), virtually brand new and I reckon ideal for trying out triathlon. If you get into it, upgrade the components or get a new one later. Try ribble read some real good reviews and new too
Ribble Sportive 7005 Shimano Tiagra at Ribble Cycles Just done my first one as well (only a sprint though) and was great to do so go for it.
I looked into a few second hands but ended up going for a new one but was on a budget. A lot of research sent me to b'twin which is decathlons own brand. There entry level road bike is called the triban 3 (then the 5 and 7 I think). He 3 is only about £300 though but still has a pretty good spec inc carbon forks. All the reviews were saying it couldn't be beat for that price.
Feels great to ride and even looks the part! Really happy with it and knocked 6 min of my best time just because of the bike!
You will get a better spec 2nd hand but if you want new on a budget it really is a great bike Anyone ever done an ironman?
Also on the triathlon bikes ive been told the Triban 5 is a good entry level one but its a drop handle, aren'ttriathlon bikes flat handled? Somebody else mentioned they had done an ironman on another thread. I haven't but I am signed up for Frankfurt next year. I've done 2 ironman 70.3 events this year but before that had only done a sprint and an Olympic (London - don't recommend it). I love it but takes a lot of time out of your week. Why don't you recommend London heard a few people say they enjoyed it. They have cut the course shorter and shorter each year and now it's lots of people in a small space riding around the docklands. It can be a nightmare for logistics too. Despite having issues this year Blenheim is really good I think.
