35mm Print scanning service

Has anyone paid for bulk scanning of photographs recently?

Can anyone recommend a good service?I have a large box of photographs that needs scanning and haven't got a clue who is best to try.Probably 1000 or so.

Thanks.

You could get a scanner & do it yourself for what it would cost for a company to do it, I would estimate x 10 above the scanner cost.

Last time this question came up the cost was about 50p a slide so you're looking at quite a lot of cash if you send them away.Advantages it will save you a lot of time, you should get good to great output.

Doing it yourself there are small cheap, dedicated devices Ion spring to mind - that will do the job fairly quickly. There are flatbed scanners like my Epson v370 which have transparency adapters.
Advantages, you have full control and you should after a bit of practice get good results.
Disadvantages scanning slides is slow and laborious, it will take you a long time.

There are other options such as projecting and photographing or using an adapter on a camera but I've no real knowledge on that.

My first point of call in either case would be to try and evaluate out of those 1000 are you sure you want all of them?

All good advice.Especially that part.I'll take some time with the other half and go through them.
