Downgrading from a nikon 14-24mm
Awesome as this lens is, it's really underused in my lineup so I'm thinking about downgrading to something significantly cheaper and lighter (something that is 20mm or wider).Any thoughts on decent options? I'm considering the 18-35mm g 18-35mm g is a great lens, very sharp. Does feel a bit cheap (especially considering the price) but that’s also a blessing as it’s very light. I really like my 16-35mm F4. Why do you think the replacement will be used more often?
By the time you sell the lens and buy another, much of the "value" will be lost - maybe better to keep the lens on the camera - and start using it more.
BTW I get the point that a newer alternative may be lighter... go round yourlocal parks, etc and get some "Stock Shots" so if the replacement isn't quite as good, at least you've got archive stuff to show. 1. Well it may very well not, but be that the case, arguably it's better to have less money tied up in my rarely used lenses.
2. The lighter version 'may' encourage me to take it out more often but in all honestly probably not as the subject matters that interest me rarely require ultra wide angles, even so I want a lens to cover the ultra wide side as a just in case option. Does it need to be a FF lens? yep Nikon 17-35 2.8.
I've had all the others and a couple of Zeiss primes for the D810.....went back to the 17-35 every time.Great IQ, pro build, less distortion and you can pick up an excellent copy for less than 500 quid. I think the 16-35 F4 IS will be a better choice!
