Canon M3 to M5 or look elsewhere
i currently have the M3 and fancy upgrading to the M5.I tend to buy second hand
Reason for upgrade is viewfinder, 1080 @ 60fps, better auto focus.
I am not bothered about 4k
So looking at the £500 price point but just wondered if I should be looking at another brand? I am now also considering the M6 The M6 does not have a viewfinder, so you may need to budget for one of those.
Have you considered the M50? Although nominally a lower model than the M5, it still has a viewfinder and has the DIGIC 8 processor along with a better AF system (better in low light, more AF points). Can be bought new for £500 so will definitely fit into your second hand budget. Since posting this I have decided on the M6.Don’t need evf and I prefer the smaller size for holidays (I also have a Canon 6d)
I have seen the M50 but was disappointed in the build quality and lack of manual buttons.
I have also bought from HEDW in the past and can get the M6 for £325 or the kit for £360.
So do I buy the kit and sell my M3 as a kit or buy the body and sell my M3 body only and use my existing kit lens? I don't think I could manage without a viewfinder. I find that a large zoom or bright sunshine make it difficult to get photos framed correctly.
A quick glance on ebay says you will only get £60 or so extra for selling as a kit assuming you have the 18-55mm. It depends on whether the extra 10mm are important to you. For me when in a busy street I find using the screen a lot less inconspicuous than using a viewfinder
I have the 15-45 lens Just an update, I bought the M6, then returned it and bought the M5 and still not convinced I have the right camera data:image/gif;base64,R0lGODlhAQABAIAAAAAAAP///yH5BAEAAAAALAAAAAABAAEAAAIBRAA7 Sorry, bit late to the party here. The M series look very nice cameras with very nice end results, but the one thing that stops me buying into this system is the lens lineup, there’s not a single lens that interests me tbh. That’s just my preferences though, hopefully you’ll get on with the M5. You should get great results with any of these cameras tbh. So I ended up getting a used Fuji X-T20 with a view ti getting the X-T30 when it comes out
