Considering An Apple Watch

Can the Apple watch accurately measure runs/walks like a GPS enabled sports watch like Nike/Polar models or does it rely on steps like a pedometer or an appropriate app in the iPhone that has to be carried ?

Thanks

If you carry an iPhone, it uses the GPS it that. It also calibrates your walking and running stride so that when you use it without the iPhone it has a much more accurate measure of distance.

The Apple Watch 2, possibly announced on 7/8/16 may have an integrated GPS of its own.

I sleep 9 hours a day and it shows just 6-7 hours. I don't know why, i complaint to iwatch support and they said that it shows exact time but i am not much satisfied with it. It doesn't show accurate timings.

I am talking about my apple watch

The question was about GPS tracking, and not sleep. Also, Apple don't promote the Watch as a sleep tracker so I don't know who 'iwatch support' are.
