Which GPS Watch?
I’ve been given the task of finding a Watch with GPS facility for my father in-laws 60th birthday present. He is a keen walker and photographer and has mentioned something like this being on his list of potential purchasesCan any give any suggestions which are reasonably priced? I’ve got the AW S1 but this doesn’t have GPS
Suunto, Apple Watch, Fitbit etc
Thanks in advance, kevin I have the Samsung Gear 3 and can't fault it so far. Battery will last 4 days easily, but less if you use the GPS. Plenty of apps available too. Does your FiL have an iPhone? If not, you can take the Apple Watch off your list. He is pretty much mr Apple with iPads, MacBook Pro, desktop, iPhone, Airport etc so I guessed it’ll probably be an Apple Watch.
I just didn’t know if there was anything better for the money or even as good but cheaper If you can still get a Series 2 it would be good value. I use my original Watch for walking and running, but as I carry my phone I don’t use GPS. I know I’m biased, but I think the Watch is still the best Smart Watch, and if your FiL has an iPhone its a no brainer. Purely by reading up, I don't have one, you can consider an android ware 2.0 watch e.g hauwei watch 2 but defo not the Samsung unfortunately as it won't work with iPhone Hi, i do not know whether i should open a new thread or not, because i am having the same situation like above BUT just different preferences. My father in law actually is very active but the thing is, he is not into some kind of smart phone world.. you know very old man.. just stick to not high tech smart phone, just a very basic phone.
So is there any fitness tracker that will not utilize any smartphone? Yes, i do search around the net, Fitbit trackers something like can sync without the smartphone or can go to their webpage instead. But it is a bit pricey, is there any alternative cheaper model that you can think of and i can make some comparison like here before making the final decision. I think the short answer is no.
A tracker would have to communicate with the internet somehow, and the easy way is via Bluetooth to a smartphone. How does your father in law access the Internet? Via a PC?
Does he need GPS, or just a basic ‘step counter’? Just a basic tracker i would say.. but for an example.. if i just setup or sync it via my phone and he is not around my phone, will it still work?
