Lightroom CC or Lightroom Classic
Hi All,As I know have a nice camera that can shoot RAW (Nikon Z6) Im looking get getting a photo editor and I think Lightroom is the best option and I've started watching a few videos on YouTube. Now my question is should I learn Lightroom classic or just Lightroom CC which I can use on both my Mac and iPad?
What I would like to do is shoot pictures in RAW, edit in light room and then add the finished picture to Apple Photos. I prefer Lightroom classic, but if you subscribe to Lightroom CC you'll get Lightroom mobile too which you can then use on your iPad too, however how and if you can sync albums between classic and mobile I don't know, maybe @shotokan101 or others may know.
I must admit I don't utilise photos much on Mac, I still just prefer to use the oldschool folder structure, but I also upload most of my stuff to Flickr. I do keep the hi res photos private and then upload low res ones to have on my photo stream.
How're you finding the Z6? As you said it would be, its a big learning curve. Im currently only using P mode or aperture priority. Really loving the camera and and the pictures im getting. The 24-70 is even giving me Coll pictures with good bokeh Classic (actually Classic CC) does work together with the mobile Lightroom CC, and the subscription gives you 20Gb of cloud storage to use for this (and includes licences for the CC versions).
You can also opt for a £20 / month version, which gives 1 Tb with Classic CC.
You choose on a Collection level basis which shots get copied to the cloud to share with the mobile apps.
Like snerkler, I use LR Classic, but also have the mobile app on my phone. I was lucky to get LR classic (6?) for a one off license fee
I do prefer to work on a larger screen and happy to wait until I get home to ‘develop’ While I remember, in case anyone is looking at this thread later, Amazon often do deals on LR for Prime Day and Black Friday.
So this years prime day, for example, I was able to buy 1 years subscription for £69.99 - once purchased, I got a code from Amazon, logged into my Adobe account, added the code and they simply added 365 days credit - so I don't may the monthly charge for another year.
Next Prime day I can then buy another 1 year subscription, etc. It’s a shame LR isn’t off the subscription model for those that are happy to store photos themselves and choose not to use the cloud (which is really warming the polar bears with lots of pictures of selfies and what you had for lunch ?) and ofcourse meaningful forum debate
I’m far from an eco warrior (quite far actually) but it’s waste and not providing choice that’s frustrating. I’ve got a 4TB drive and have decided not to buy a bigger unit but remove unwanted pictures. I bet I wouldn’t bother if I just increased my subscription by a few £ LR became subscription only before the cloud option was a thing and all users had to store their images on their own computers. I bought my perpetual licence for Lightroom Classic late last year. It was only available for those with existing licences and difficult to actually find and buy, I had my original licence free with a camera in 2012 The OP is asking for advice on how to choose between 2 Adobe subscription packages.
Standalone Lightroom 6 is not Lightroom Classic despite what the name might imply.

The subscription vs. single payment thing has been done over and over again.
If you want an up to date program for a one off payment Adobe aren't going to help you.
You can try DxO or Capture One etc. here's a thread about it.
Question - Lightroom Replacement
I'm sticking with LR6 until I get a camera it doesn't support then I'll be looking for software from another vendor.
