Puzzled by Samsung's Range of Tablets
Does anyone know why they stopped production of the Tab S 10.5 ? Most reviews have this tablet down as one of the best Samsung has made. I can't find a decent seller in the UK and would really like to buy one new.Would the Tab S2 9.7" be on par with the Tab S 10.5 screen detail/sharpness wise?
Would the extra 0.8" make a lot of difference to viewing TV shows/Movies?Should Samsung bring out an S3 9.7" in their suggested Sept announcements would the S2 be expected to drop in price dramatically? When Samsung make worldwide announcements and roll out new tablets how soon do they tend to hit UK shops/online retailers?
I'm in the process of switching from an Ipad 2 to a Samsung mainly for the expandable storage luxury I have with their range.
I bought a refurbished Tab S 10.5 from Argos but it was sent back, I had issues with it reading/writing to several different Micro SD cards so have lost confidence going down the "Professionally Refurbished" route.
My finger is hovering over the purchase button for a replacement for my Ipad2 but Samsung's range leave me puzzled and a bit disappointing if I'm honest. I got a Samsung tab s 10.5 unfortunately my little boy has rendered the tablet unworkable.
He poured milk on the screen and it had dings on the side of the frame the milk went in the tablet and result one dead tablet.
To repair it will cost above £100 needed a new front back bezel and maybe screen as it doesn't power up or charge.
I got him a Samsung tab a 9.7 at curry's £180 its more solid but its screen isn't that good but it does have the expandable storage.
I was looking for a 2nd hand tab s but they pricey 1. It’s to encourage consumers to buy their latest tablets. To be honest, most manufacturers do this regardless of whether they are selling a tablet or a TV; produce a set amount, sell as many as possible, move onto the next device. Specs wise, the original Tab S 10.5 is coming up to be a couple of generations old and may struggle to handle some of the latest graphics-heavy apps (I’m not even sure what version Android is available for that). I’m still a huge fan of the original Tab S 10.5, as to date, it is the only Android Super Amoled tablet in the RGB S-Stripe arrangement. The Tab S 8.4, S2 (and presumably upcoming S3) are all in a diamond pentile arrangement. Samsung does have the 12” Galaxy TabPro S, which is Super Amoled RGB S-Stripe; however, this is a Windows tablet (and around £850!). The original Tab S is expensive and rare so your best bet may be the second hand market.
2. The S2 has a lower pixel density than the Tab S 10.5 but is stronger specced in other areas. The Tab S 10.5 would be better for watching movies (given the pixel density and 16:10 aspect ratio) but the S2 will be better in web browsing (4:3 aspect ratio), support for later version of Android and newer apps etc.
3. See answer above.
4. I’m not sure. I only saw a price drop on the Tab S 10.5 once and that was in December 2014. I didn’t notice a price drop once the S2 was out. Will need to wait and see.
5. I think pretty quick, as the Galaxy S tabs are Samsung’s flagship Android tablets and have proved popular. I rate them better than their Note tabs due to their awesome Super Amoled screens (although I love the Note stylus). Yeah, I have a Tab S 10.5 and still find it an amazing for films. A nice healthy 128gb card in and I have enough films to tide me over on long haul flights and 3 week holidays data:image/gif;base64,R0lGODlhAQABAIAAAAAAAP///yH5BAEAAAAALAAAAAABAAEAAAIBRAA7
To date - nothing has bettered it for the above. Hope it is not the last of the super AMOLED and widescreen tabs though. Would love one with front facing speakers. I missed out on the tab s 10.5 and read the tab s2 was a downward spec compared to the s.
What's best Samsung have to offer these days in tablet products as I don't fancy a iPad. Probably the best Samsung at the moment.

The S2 is wider so the pixels are arranged differently making the pixel count a little lower.
Elsewhere it's a minor bump above the previous one. I recently bought a 9.7in S2 for £290. Its OK, but I find I prefer to pick up my iPad Air 2. It's not a hardware issue, as most of the time I can't remember which one I have in my hand. The problem is the number of things you can do with Android. The Play Store seems a bit of a shambles, and it's a case of 'buyer beware' when buying an app.
The difference between the S2 and an iPad are small, but those little bits of attention to detail certainly show on an iPad. Any news of the rumoured new S3 tablet that was thought to be announced in early September but wasn't, seems to have dropped off the face of the planet!?
