How can i tell if a new Ipad is stolen?
Hi Guys,I have recently been given a dslr and brand new ipad mini 2 as part payment for money owed to me. The guy who gave them to me is famous for getting stuff on credit then selling it on at a loss but giving himself money in his pocket for whatever reason. I assumed this was the case with these items but someone questioned this and asked me how I know they're not stolen from a store or similar and the answer is I don't.
There is links online to find out if second hand items have been stolen but as these are brand new in boxes is there any way to tell?
Regards
Scott I bought a brand new sealed iPad off Schpock and despite going to pick it up and given assurances it was an unwanted gift I was still unsure. I registered it with apple and I've had it almost a year now with no problems. I assume if it was stollen Apple would know via the serial number. I think that's all you can do really. Thanks mate. I'm not needing this but really wary about selling it as its niggling away at me. I think there will be no issues you will face, mostly people use second hand ipad, mine is using samsung since 6 months I wouldn't be sure but I doubt many shops right down the serial numbers of Ipads when they get them delivered and when they sell them so I don't see how it would possible to check especially if it was new and sealed.
I could see doubts about a second hand used Ipad that may have been stolen and already registered with Apple but again I doubt many people right down the serial number to cover such an eventuality. but not with the same serial number. Having worked in electronics resale. All serial numbers were registered from the company and checked into stock at our end.We also noted what was sold and their serial numbers. If anything was stolen enroute from the originating source it could be traced if used. The Police would also be notified of all the products and Serial Numbers.
I know it's a bit late, but if in doubt contact the companies in question.
