Amazon Kindle Fire HDX 8.9 Tablet AVForums Review

Amazon's flagship tablet is a joy to hold, sports a fantastic display but it may be to Prime-centric and non-customisable for some

Surely too Amazon content heavy can't be a negative on an Amazon branded tablet.

That's like marking down iPads for having iOS on them.

Until Amazon have expandable storage on their Tablets, I won't give them any purchase consideration.

This is a big issue for me, too.

I love collecting my favourite films on Blu-ray Disc, but if the film isn't out on disc the next best bet is an HD version from Amazon Instant Video.

The trouble is I can't watch HD streamed as my broadband is so poor, so it'd be nice to be able to store the films I buy at home watch as I please.

But at 8GB per film, a Kindle Fire gets very full very quickly.

When you have lots of paid apps from the play store and either face having to buy them again on the Amazon store or not have them at all then it is a problem.

Battery life is amazing on my 8.9 HDX. Watched a 2 1/2 hour movie last night and was concerend my 19% would not last the duration as I hadn't my charger with me. The movie ended and battery life was 4% and then browsed for the best part of an hour before it shut down.

The automatic brightness is quite aggressiveness for daytime use, so you need to manually set it sometimes, which means if you forget to switch it back later you have it brighter than necessary.

Android still sucks with their app offering to iOS so I find this tablet and my iPhone the ultimate combo.

The Origami case is both over-rated and ridiculously expensive. The magnet for the stand is only really strong in landscape and it collects dandruff round the edges!

I see your point but I'm not in full agreement.

Apple has a much richer ecosystem and a far wider array of apps available through it than Amazon. The Fire is also different in that it is essentially running Android - only without hundreds of thousands of the apps readily available - whereas iOS is all their own work. I personally think they would sell more Fire's if they weren't so tied in to the Amazon experience and made it more 'Android-y' but there you go. The HUDL does pretty well for Tesco and it doesn't push the goods and services anything like as heavily.

We've found that useful. If we're looking for a hair clip in the morning before sending the girls to school, we know where to go!

The Oragami case alos sends my 7" HDX to sleep if I fold it open flat when reading a book - the only way to keep the Kindle awake is to remove the case.Lots of cases on the internet...
