Talk me through itunes, apple products etc......

Hi,

I'm total noob to apple products and have always stood by android.

However the missus has always had an iphone. With every phone she gets, i get sick of hearing that her memory is full.

For her birthday i've bought her an ipad, and seeing as i'll probably be using i want to get my head around how all this syncing works with clouds etc.

First Question:
The last phone she got it immediately sync'd and she had a new, "FULL" phone memory with every photo she'd ever taken on an iphone and every song she had in her library. Is is possible to keep all this in the cloud and only access over wifi instead of filling her the devices memory?

More questions will follow..

I'm saying nothing other than one thing.

I would, and I'm sure many many will agree, never trust the only copies you have to a single device or in the cloud.

For the sake of less than £100 (I'm guessing) always take local copies of photo's etc that are important to you, so you know you have them safe, physically in your possession, just in case.

By all means, use the cloud etc for your day to day usage, but have a backup data:image/gif;base64,R0lGODlhAQABAIAAAAAAAP///yH5BAEAAAAALAAAAAABAAEAAAIBRAA7

yeah we have all photos and music on an external hard drive, but i just don't want everything in the icloud automatically downloading itself to the new ipad and taking up a bulk of memory.

If you have access to a PC Windows or Mac.Apple have a free downloadprogram called iTunes which allows you to manage everything . Music, videos , photos , so you can store and backup everything and then just put what you want on the phone. In fairness, most of the good android phones like Sony have something similar. So you could for instance burn dvds with all your photos for the last twenty years... As an archive
iTunes is powerful and simple, and unlike android there is usually only one way to do anything...

Has iTunes suddenly improved on the PC ?

I suffered with it for the 1st time when I bought my 1st iPad, and OMG what an utter pain in the butt it was, horrid clunky overly complex for no reason mess all tied into a marketplace for selling you things,
In case it was just me, I searched around and found this was the typical viewpoint of the software.
All tied into a marketplace for selling you things.
when I did a fresh windows install a year or two later, I simply refuse to let anything iTunes related anywhere near my PC ever again.

Perhaps it's improved in recent years?

Just has a google and found a great post.

The second post on this page ( by ebilgenius )is a great walkthru of iTunes development from it's "simple" startdata:image/gif;base64,R0lGODlhAQABAIAAAAAAAP///yH5BAEAAAAALAAAAAABAAEAAAIBRAA7

If you buy into the apple way and it's the only way you know, then itunes is fine. It's probably more complex now than in iPad 1 days... just like the rest of us.
Clunky??? Maybe . It's more to do with familiarity. Each of these programs for different operating systems may do the same tasks but just slightly differently, and it is confusing switching between one and another...

I suspect that apple supporters and buyers are people who put a premium on artistic design and are not either as interested or capable of things technical.. they want things that work, have a reputation for quality, acceptable to their peers and price is of minor concern. Those people are unlikely to frequent on line fora saying how good the interface is...   Or be into comparative studies on interfaces..

An off the wall observation . I was in manhatten 3 years ago and spent a while as a tourist on the metro. Every white person i observedhad an apple iphone   almost everyone else had a samsung....
