Which Tablet to run Zyxel app?

Hi All
Basically I'm going away and thought I'd try to access the videos on my NAS.
Got the app on my iPhone and iPad but they won't play mkv's.
What cheap alternative would be good with a screen the size of my iPad Air2, there's quite a few here
for £50Nexus etc but wouldn't know if they're any good or not.
