Clips cut out first few seconds on playback on Two NAS

I have two NAS...PCH A-300 and Zappiti 4K HDR.
Both with internal HDDs and with various music and video clips in a variety of formats. Both are connected to my Denon AVR via HDMI.The music clips are mainly CD rips to flacc.

Both seem to have a similar problem in that when playing back a video or music clip via their built in 'browser' or music app (i.e NMJ), they miss out the first couple of seconds.
The Zappitti seems to be worse. Video clips are longer delay, about 5 seconds probably due to the auto picture resolution change(?).
Is there anything I can do to eliminate or reduce this delay?

Do they play OK on any other platforms (PC, phone, iPad, etc...?)

Yes, they all playback fine from my PC.
So seems like it's the NAS software?

For clarity, I meant can you play back from your NAS to other platforms: If so, it indicates the NAS and network infrastructure is OK, and the issue is with the clients.

It's a problem diagnosis technique whereby we determine where the fault is by changing one end: E.G. - if I look out the window and my car has turned red, I try a different window, if my car is now black, I suspect the first window is causing the colour change, if my car is still red, then I can suspect the car has actually changed colour. Similar idea - if you can play a file from a NAS OK on one playback device, but not another, one tends to suspect the playback device rather than the NAS (or the files it's storing.) Converserly, if it's "wrong" on everything, one tends to suspect the NAS (or it's software/apps or the files.) It's basically a process of elimination whereby we try to determine where the fault lies.

The 24Hz issue has a workaround in MrMC (not sure if its Kodi, didn't see it) were upon refresh rate switch you can set a delay in seconds to pause before playing (settings->video->playback).

To use MrMC though you need a FireTV, Nvidia Shield or AppleTV 4K.

I'd check if Zappitti has something similar or ask their support channel to implement something like that.

Not sure whats causing the music to delay if it has no video component. Whats your connection to the NAS via media player DLNA, SMB, NFS ?

I can playback the NAS files overthe wired network on my Windows PC usiung the Windows software....Media Player, VLC etc and there are no problems

When I say 'NAS' I meanthe PCH A300 and Zappiti, two separate devices connected direct to my amp via HDMI. I play the files direct from their respective OS/browsers and there is few second delay when playing music and video files.1-2 secs on the PCH and bout 3 secs witht the ZAP (as much as 5 secs for video)

Is it not just the HDD's waking up.

Kevo Publish time 2-12-2019 04:35:47

Possibly, but the delay is there when playing a subsequent track

I've installed a new stereo amp yesterday and connected the PCH A300 via Optical and using the PCH gui there is no delay. This is was my intention anyway so am happy with the PCH music situation now.

So the issue must be something to do with HDMI and/or the AVR amp?

The Zappiti and it's longer delay is now the sole issue, mainly with the 3-5 sec delay when playing video/audio clips via HDMI and the AVR Amp.
