GPU 4k query

Hi, just a quick question on the denon 2300w 4k upscaling capabilities .i have this AVR connected to my graphics card (Radeon R7 360), via hdmi. This card can go to a screen resolution of 2560 by 1440, which isn't proper 4k. If I was to buy a 4k TV, will the AVR upscale to 4k, or at least present 4k material as proper 4k? Or will the graphics card limit up-scaling? I see some motherboards have 4k ready advertised, do this mean they have 4k onboard graphic capabilities, so that an additional GPU isnt needed?

Many thanks,

G

An R7 360 will go to 3840x2160, and should do it in TV timings for 4K as well. Although I think it was the last model that didn't have HDMI 2.0, so you'd need a DisplayPort to HDMI 2.0 converter.

Upscaling can be done in any point in the chain and isn't affected by the capabilities of previous links. So if the Denon is capable of it for that resolution then it'll be able to do it with any source, or the TV itself can do it.

Motherboards don't have the GPU themselves these days, they provide the outputs for the GPU built into most CPUs. Some CPUs in a range may not have an integrated GPU or a less capable one, so motherboard capabilities shouldn't be taken as guaranteed.
