USB Wifi adaptor reccomendations.

I have a pretty nice Dell XPS laptop for work but the Wi-Fi reception on it isn't great. I am travelling a lot at the moment and crappy hotel Wi-Fi is the bane of my life. I was staying in a place a couple of nights ago and I could barely log onto the network before it dropped the connection again, but my phone and tablet were fine, to the point where I could watch Netflix on the tablet but cant even get my emails on the laptop.

I have been looking around at USB Wi-Fi adaptors, particularly the type with an external antenna and I was wondering how these perform and if anyone has any recommendations?

Its hard to recomend anything specific IMO. Sometimes the mini adapters without antenna performe better than the ones with antenna. From what i saw even the same models can have verying results. Personally im using a TP-Link TL-WN722N but i saw some reviews of it with people complaining about its speed and conectivity but i didnt have any such problems so far.

I use an Alfa with 9db replacement high gain aerial for reconnaissance work. You won’t get better than that.

Thanks for the recommendation, I got a bargain on an Alfa adapter off Ebay (came with three different antennas as well) and it works really well. Just sitting in my lounge I can pick up four networks on my inbuilt Wifi and fourteen on the Alfa!

Awesome! Glad it works well for you. It is a really awesome piece of kit.
