Is power limited throttle normal on a laptop?

Hello,

I’ve got a Asus FX504GM Laptop with an i7 8750H cpu and with GTX 1060 graphics. I’ve had a look at the cpu data on intel tuning utility and throttlestop and noticed it power limit throttles. Is this normal for a laptop? Thanks

Any non-K CPU is likely to come up against it's power limits for some workloads, regardless of whether it's a laptop or desktop.

Laptops can be subject to more of it though, particularly those with high power components like yours.

What are you seeing the clockspeeds drop to? As long as they stay above or close to nominal speeds I wouldn't worry about it.

Check your power managment settings, you may have it set up to be at 80 or 90% on cpu.
