combination of small, light, good battery life, ssd and cheap doesn't exist. There will have to be a compromise somewhere if cheap is immutable.

A Macbook or MacBook Air is not expensive, more money than you had in mind perhaps, but not expensive for what they offer.

Steering towards a 2 in 1 chrome book.

I hope you realise the limitations of a chrome book.

well yeah...but like you said ....compromise.

she's keeping her main windows laptop in her room....so needs something small and light just for lessons.

she's studying chemistry so no heavy graphic type use needed...mainly word and office type stuff....which can all be had in android apps...

advantages i can see...are...small light....good battery....fast boot up.....wont get bogged down in windows updates etc....all office type programs can be had in apps etc.

she wont need massive amounts of storage.....so could use a usb drive and cloud if needed.

was thinking a mid range one around the 200 -250 mark

there was a nice 2 in 1 acer with 32 gb down to 209 quid in the sales....now sold out everywhere at that price
