Laptop recommendations for Photoshop/Lightroom
Hello,My mum is wanting to replace her portable laptop and desktop setup with a static laptop (that will remain at home and replace the desktop). The old Lenovo portable laptop will be wiped and have photoshop reinstalled for travelling purposes (photography abroad etc...).
She does a fair bit of travel photography with a Canon ELS6D2 (26MP) as well as general photography and is looking for a more up to date (faster) laptop that she can use for home editing in lightroom/photoshop as her current one is sluggish.
I've copied and pasted the usual 'spec' questions below.
Budget - maximum £1000, although she'd likely go higher if it warranted it longer term, but not much.Would rather spend more and get something decent than skimp and regret it I think.i.e. Don't suggest £950 laptop if a £1200 would smash it out of the park as I think she'd likely pay that.Equally, if £700 would be more than enough, then happy days - I'll charge her for the consulting ;-).
What size laptop do you want? 17" or larger if cost possible
Do you have resolution requirements? As high as possible for budget
Matte screen preferably - touchscreen if possible - however, my concern with this is that it reduces the quality of the screen for editing - is that the case?
What will you be using the laptop for?
Photo Editing then the usual internet/email - no gaming but a graphics card that will cope with PS and LR.
Battery wouldn't need to last forever as would be just moved from the study to sitting room at most. Therefore, portability isn't a huge issue.
Do you require Blu-Ray? - NO
Do you require HDMI output? - Yes if cost allows
Do you have a preferred brand? - Not really, but I have put together several desktops on PCSpecialist in the past. Her current is a Lenovo, but mum is not bothered about loyalty to that. She has mentioned moving to Apple but I have said that would mean learning a new OS and likely adding a lot to the cost (unless anyone knows otherwise....)
Would you be happy with a refurbished laptop? No
Any other details you feel necessary...
Colour - Not bothered
Webcam - Not bothered
Good quality speakers - not bothered
General spec: CPU - research quickly seems to suggest a newer i7 would be best, but having not bought a PC for 3 years and having never specced a laptop, I haven't got an idea
RAM - mum has said 16Gb minimum but 32 Gb if poss (I think that might hit the cost but don't know)
HDD space - as large as possible and sensible for the cost
SSD - yes if poss for OS and maybe even the two programmes she uses most (PS and LR) Operating System or anything else you can think of - Win 10
Appreciate any advice at all with this as i haven't got much idea about laptops - especially what is useful for editing.
Happy Christmas all, Dan.
