Top end laptops
Looking to replace the current laptop/ultrabooks around home.Had a look at the new macbooks and whilst they look lovely my preference would be towards a solely windows based laptop.
Are Dell XPS still the pick of the bunch? Microsoft's Surface devices and Lenovo's top Thinkpads also get rave reviews. Asus' Zenbook range and HP's top models like the Elitebook 840 are also worth a look. thanks for the options. Last time I had a look at surface's they seemed to be very much tablet based - has this changed now? If by tablet based you mean the detatchable keyboard then Microsoft has had fixed keyboard options since 2015's original Surface Book, and I believe they have additional fixed keyboard models in the range as well.
The internal hardware on the higher end detatchable keyboard ones like the Surface Pro are the same as other laptops. same situation for me. It will help if you refine:
1. size of screen 13 or 15 in general
2. Use: at home, super light for outside or both
3. budget
I am also looking at a window laptop and my research so far identified two from runner
Del XPS 13 2019 version (better battery and camera moved up)
HP spectre x360 2019 version with 13
Like 15inch but they tend to be a bit heavy at circa 2kg while ultrabook seems to turn around 1.2kg. I currently use an old MAcBookAir 13inch and seems ok in terms of size and weight.
I am however tempted by a bigger screen if i spend lots of time in front of the screen... I'd consider the Dell XPS or Lenovo Thinkpad X1 carbon/extreme....But it is impossible to advise anyone else as there are so many variations and personal preferences....
Mine is an Apple MacBook Pro 15" i9 six core, with 32GB RAM.... I have the XPS 13 for travel and an XPS 15 as my main home machine (both running Linux) and are pleased with both. The only gripe is that the screen hinge is a bit tight. 1
For Windoze machines you can't beat the high end Lenovo Thinkpads. Bought a Thinkpad X220 back in 2011 and last year replaced the X220 with a X1 Carbon 5th Gen. Both are/were superb machines wrt build quality, appearance, business grade features, and very little bloatware. Used to love Sony Vaio but ever since Sony stopped making laptops, Thinkpads are my favourite. I have just bought theHP ENVY 13-ah0003na Laptop
13.3
i7 cpu
16gb ram
500gb ssd
touchscreen
backlit keyboard
1920x1080 screen
discrete graphics
Fastest laptop i have ever had.I do not ever use a windows tablet so have opted for this one as it is a laptop not 2-1.Have a look - it is truly a great little machine.
