HDR & Windows 1803 Update Question

Hi All,

After trying to diagnose seperate HDR related problem I have noticed that since the 1803 Windows update that I applied a week or so ago, when enabling the HDR toggle in the Windows Display Settings, it reports 8-bit with dithering and RGB with HDR….

Is this correct because I’m convinced that before the update it was YCbCr422 or 420, 10bit with HDR.

I can override this by changing the default colour settings in the Nvidia control panel but just wanted to ask if anyone else had spotted this and was this likely to cause any problems.

Leaving the Nvidia settings alone in default mode, games with HDR toggle Windows HDR mode automatically with my TV detecting the HDR signal as was the case before as does MPC-HC > MADVR and HDR movie playback.

HDR movie playback and gaming apear as they were but just wanted to make sure I wasn't missing anything.

Is there a difference between gaming and media playback in HDR with regards to what Windows should be toggling between?

Any advice?

From what rtings say RGB 444 8-bit HDR is possible but side effect is degraded HDR, whether you see that or not is up to you, for some it is acceptable.

Thanks for the info.

So should I leave the Nvidia settings to default and let the Windows HDR mode use RGB 8bit with dithering or adjust the Nvidia settings to YCbCr422 10bit.

Thnx
